Is the Canon a Mirror?
The Western canon, as it's kind of come to be called, has three advantages. The first is that it's time tested. And so we can kind of look back and see what works have endured and which ones haven't. When we read those works, we learn more not only about the people who wrote them, but even more about ourselves.
