The 10th Amendment to the US Constitution
The 10th Amendment allows each and every state to create their own laws that can be more restrictive than federal laws. The gun control act of 1968 prohibits certain classes of people from buying, selling, using, owning, receiving, shipping, carrying, possessing, or exchanging any firearm or ammunition. According to the US Sentencing Commission approximately five to six thousand prohibited people a year are convicted of receiving or possessing a firearm in 2017 over 25.2 million background checks were performed.
