Isn't History Political?
I think all history is political, isn't it? And indigenous history is one of the many subaltern narratives that has been forgotten. I was at a conference a few years ago and we were talking about inverting narratives of conquest so that we could tell an indigenous perspective on conquest and invasion. For me, it's more that it's not just about a rebalancing. The work is an act of recovery. Some people want to hear exciting stories of travelers but they don't want to hear that 90% of these people also died in slavery.
