The History of Carthage

Carthage became a cosmopolitan trading center, and attracted settlers from a number of different ethnic constituencies. Every home enjoyed access to a cistern through a series of pipes and channels. The Carthaginians had fully equipped bathrooms with tubs, sinks and even showers by the end of the 7th century BC. Since there was very little hinterland around the city of Carthage, it was forced to rely on overseas resources for most of its food supply.
