In the 1970s, there were increasing attempts to occupy land and to get land back to tribal nations. That's where Leonard Peltier first encounters his foray into red power politics. He joined it at the time when there was these nationwide occupations in 1970 of the Bureau of Indian Affairs offices throughout the country. The Melton Red Power Movement wasn't oftentimes people say, oh, you know, these urban radicals started to, and that's not true.
