What About Non-Grantor Trusts?
Pennsylvania doesn't recognize grantor trust, so as far as Pennsylvania state taxes, it would be a separate entity. With trusts, you can jurisdiction shop. It's very easy to get a trust to be governed under the law of a state that is not the state where you live. Some people also do that with respect to offshore trusts outside of the United States and jurisdictions like Belize and the Cook Islands.
