The Rise of Raymond Scott
Stravinsky, Cab Calloway and Duke Ellington were all Raymond Scott fans. He was music director of CBS Radio where he led a racially integrated radio orchestra. John Philip Sousa wrote an essay called The Menace of Mechanical Music in the 1930s. Kurt Vonnegut wrote his first novel about a dystopian America run by engineers and their automatic machinery.
