Curious Cases

CHAPTER

The Basics of Water

Water has an oxygen atom, two hydrogen atoms stuck to it. The solid is less dense than the liquid - that's why icebergs float. Our cells need to be able to contain water so things that are non polar are not very well dissolved in water. It would be a bit messy if our sells dissolved and oil too. Oils and water don't want to mix. Water is most dense at four degrees c, even though becomes solid at zero. There are 15 or so different types of ice. That's true. Very good at storing energy, yes, yes. Got a high heat capacity.
