programmers wrote code that the people had to totally believe what they were focusing on was possible. If they had any doubt, that also registered in the database and it kept the thing that they wereocusing on further away from them. Large groups of people would worry so much about what all the others were thinking and doing that they basically imploded. Their groupthink literally destroyed them because their lack of ability to create finally ran out.
