I love that Frank uses beauty as a criterion for scientific theories. These beautiful theories will map onto what nature actually does, the way the world actually is. And quarks and gluons are a very interesting case because even today, we, when the theory tells us that they shouldn't exist as particles in the conventional sense. They're not things that you can isolate and study. But the equations tell you that they do have this kind of very tangible existence as jets. You can certainly see that the equations they participate in are the correct equations to describe the physical world.
