Is the Fed Doing Its Job?
A week ago, almost everyone felt sure that the Fed was going to continue its rate hiking campaign. Now it seems like just about everyone in markets is unequivocally convinced that this event marks the de facto end of quantitative tightening. Almost nobody thinks that a hike is even possible next Wednesday and quite a few pundits are calling for an easing campaign to begin next week. But I don't think hikes are off the table for the next meeting on May 2nd, especially if next month's CPI comes in hot again.
