Women aren't having as many kids as they would like in this country and presumably increasingly in other countries. The more that society is built up, businesses prop up, the harder it's going to be for people who do have children. Thomas Malthus thought that birth rates would be self-correcting but below 2.1 births seem to be self-reinforcing.
