In biology and psychology we're always dealing with trade-offs so everything in both the physical life we lead and the mental life we lead has many things these things have benefits but they can be overdone. Protein is good for you if you eat too much of it it's bad for you extremely bad that's why a lot of the expeditions exploring the mid-west in the 18th century history came unstuck and all ended up dying. Reputations are very important in a generic sense because they relate to trust and therefore for you to be able to manipulate somebody's perception of a third party's reputation it holds out the prospect of offering you an extra kind of leg into the social world
