CHAPTER

The Limits of Order

I love the tradition in cognitive science that there's an ecology of cognition. So you can think of that two ways. In one sense, it adds constraints, which has a regularising pressure. Which is pretty important in a society. Yes. But there's still potential for open-ended exploration and diversity all over the place. There must be a balance between the two. If we were completely regularised, stable intellects, you'd never really think of all of the weird and wacky stuff that drives humans. The sotry. You know the architect of the Matrix said that the first iterations were perfect. And it was so boring. Maybe that's why I'm clearly gone.
