Frieda Kahlo was the most celebrated female artist of the 20th century. Carlo had painful operations on his back, foot and leg during her life. She became addicted to painkillers before she died in 1954 aged 47. Some suspected suicide but now consensus is that it was pills. Her work has been hailed as one of the world's greatest ever paintings.
