The Importance of Privacy in the Age of Disinformation
In the second half of last year there was a significant increase in requests for user data from Turkish authorities on apps like TikTok. These companies say that they review each request on a case-by-case basis and only hand over user information if there are valid reasons. Since October 2022 Turkey has sent the most requests out of any country asking Twitter to either hand over user data or takedown posts.
