Is There a Difference Between Academics and Philosophers?
I think it takes a particular type of personality to be excited by the actual subject matter of a subject. And I feel like probably most people involved in most disciplines are of the latter kind. You know, at every level, there's selection for conformity and rule following. To get into a good PhD program and philosophy, you're expected to have a GPA upwards of 3.8 out of four. So, you don't have a lot of room for arguing with your professor.
