We just overthink because we think that if we do, it'll help us to avoid shame. Perfectionists feel a lot of shame. We are wired to have that feeling. It's in our emotional vocab to feel shame. What we want to be working on instead is to get into the growth mindset where we don't actually interpret things in a way that is shameful.
