Recognize that while your membership site might not look as polished as some one who is a professional web designer, that you will have strength that they don't have. Accept the limitations, move on beyond them. Your members will shape the direction of your membership. The great thing with membership is that it's not a finished product. And that thing that you've spent 20 or 30 hours fretting over, that piece of content of thast feature, you'll probably find that nobody cares about it.
