Ask the Naked Scientists

CHAPTER

The Effects of a Body Clock on Flowers

Plants have body clocks just like we do. They can keep track of time. Scientists showed that plants are actually doing quite complicated maths because they store energy in their leaves and stems. Plants use the same body clock to work out how to make seeds and flowers at the right time of day or year. Some pollinators are not bees that are active during the day, they are night active animals like moths. Moths do a huge amount of pollination and you need to therefore make your plants accessible and attractive to night active pollinators like these moths. Flowers having topical this morning.
