The Great Explosion of the University
Trepo's theory was that by allowing some free speech on campus, the moderates and liberals would be satisfied and drift away from the radicals. But far from releasing some harmless stea, the freedoms now granted to the universities triggered the great explosion that blew a hole in the side of the ship of state. As soon as they were back in session, student groups started holding meetings, lots of meetings, practically every night at every university,. They discussed the land question, economic conditions of the workers, political and economic philosophy.
