Critical Thinking Scale for Kids
Teachers have a lot of luck by having kids debate both sides of the same issue to get in the habit of adopting different perspectives, even in the classroom. That act of listening skill is just as important with their social relationships as it is with their school work. And i think that's a really useful skill. Even if they don't change their opinion or broaden their world view at all, at least they're learning how to have civil discourse.
