Many single people won't recognise themselves as being discriminated against. Being in a couple confers certain, often unspoken, advantages. Even minor slights point to this hidden hierarchy. It's that kind of little difference that really, for me, it's infantilising. We make so much of marriage or moving in together as a marker of adulthood. If you don't walk along that same path, people like to treat you like you are younger than them,. more immature than them. And that is a big problem.
