The patient is admitted with abdominal pain and encephalopathy. His blood pressure is low, but stable, his heart rates in the 90s. About 10 to 25% of serotics will end up with a portal vein thrombosis. So should I prophylax them for DVTs? My answer to that is probably yes. Anoxaparen may be even beneficial in some ways if they have cirrhosis.
