Is Consent Required to Set the Google Analytics Cookie?

The rule of thumb is there is no one size that fits all. Google Analytics is an interesting one because even if you get e-privacy consent as in consent to read, write, and read from the cookie, you can’t get consent for the processing of personal data that results from the setting of that cookie. So while you might be okay from a privacy point of view, there are a number of reasons why Google Analytics is just not okay from a data protection point of view. If you are strict about compliance with law and strict about data ethics, then staying away from Google Analytics is the way forward.
