Charlie Ryan's Decision to Join the Pioneers

I was thinking of the hilarious part of your chapter about his childhood and adolescence where he doesn't want to make it into the pioneers in the first place. And then he finally, grudgingly accepts a kind of backdoor membership in the pioneers. Well he accepted and decided that it was something he had to do because that was the point we were talking earlier. Are you going to begin, you know, go to a life of crime and go up that ladder or are you going to try and do something better for yourself? That was the moment when he joined the pioneers and then he joined the commsomol and so on.
