The Cabaret Tax in New Orleans
In 1944, the cabaret tax was introduced in New Orleans. The argument is that this contributed to the demise of the big bands and the rise of bebop and jazz because that was music you couldn't dance to. "I want to point out just how clearly one can be on the side of the law and still benefit," he says.
