The Magic of 40 in Kabbalah

In the Jewish tradition, Kabbalah is something that I guess there's folklore around that you can only begin studying this tradition when you turn 40. Some people would go so far as to say you have to be a married 40 year old man to study it. So I'd be curious to hear your perspective on just as someone who's gone through midlife and has passed the 40 year mark.
