The Effect of the Anti-Defection Law on Parliament
The anti-defection law seems to boil all elections down. It completely makes parliament irrelevant because once you have the election result you can feed it into a computer and everyone is supposed to vote long party lines anyway, he says. The first casualty in many of these situations has been the questioner where MPs and the MLA are supposed to ask any question they want. But that's gone because now we have disruptions to a large extent. Government gets a blank check more often than not as bills get passed without any debate through a voice vote mechanism.
