The History of the Federal Courts

In 1789, we have fewer than 20 Article III judgeships. Fast forward to 1900 and there's only a little more than 100 judges. By the end of that century, we're up to 850 Article III judges. This really becomes a robust institution during this time. And with that, it has real administrative needs.
