The Golden Age of Science

There are some who view the finding of Watson and Crick as the birth of the golden era of molecular biology. The term brute force comes from John Karens' nature article in 1999 called The Last Days in Arcadia where he talked about how yes by 1966 the genetic code had been worked out but he felt it was more by brute force than subtle argument. This is what transitioning from a young branch to an older branch of science looks like. How do we think about Edison's work was it science now?
