General Artificial General Intelligence

Current deep learning approaches still seem, in some ways, to be far from general intelligence systems. It's amazing how people can't ate between, say, the narrow a that i allows a car to figureout what a lane line isandand uno navigate streets,. Like these are just very different things. Do you think the current approaches will take us to general intelligence? Or do totally new ideas need to invented?
