The IMF has roughly about the same amount as Germany, Italy and France who are like second place. And yeah, as you say, 1000 tons, if they were a country, they would be maybe the second or the third or the fourth largest gold reserve. But anyway, so the point is that you had all these countries that wanted to get World Bank funding for their projects. Most of them ruled by unaccountable leaders who didn't really have low time preference.
