CHAPTER

The Antinomian and the Neo-Marxist Revolution

Herbert Marcuse had a number of significant works, but I want to mention four of those from the 1950s and 60s in the episode today. The first is repressive tolerance, which is a long essay written in 1965. Second is the essay on liberation, which was much longer essay written in 1969. Third is eros and civilization, a very strange book where he combines Marxism and Freudian psychoanalysis from 1955. Fourth is his kind of magnum opus from 1964 called One-Dimensional Man.
