The Roman women had bridesmaids for their big day. Back then, it was actually kind of normal for men to see a beautiful woman just walking around and minding her own business. Romans would throw rice or sometimes even nuts at the new bride and groom as they made their way to the after party. The newlyweds would lift up the whole cake and then smash it over his new wife's head.
