The Importance of Expected Utility
I think absolutely anyone should be thinking in terms of expected utility. So as I understand, totalitarianism, it says... You are the plus, the more blessed you are. And so that's the action that would be recommended. Right? What's interesting is that a lot of people, maybe most people, sort of bristle at the idea that you should be even implicitly doing this calculation. They'll say no amount of time saved for you is worth risking someone's life. But in fact, they are making that trade-off every time they drive.
