As an Indian American, I can relate to that as it was kind of a given that we would go to college. My parents were divorced by the time I was 10 or 11 and so they were almost like there was a certain sort of social class regression that happened in my family. There was just sort of more of a tacit expectation that well this is obviously going to happen, Tara smart, Tara's with it. She's going to go to college, she's going to get a good job.
