The theory was that they were so used to hot water that when they got into the ocean that would immediately give them hypothermia or they wouldn't be used to it as opposed to cold showers. A 17 year old girl swam Alcatraz in 47 minutes, and she's not even the youngest person who had done it. In 2006, a seven-year-old boy also did it. It seems like there must be just a current that switches on once a day.
