This seems to be a problem layman wanting to do away with nephi and with lehi ultimately. Well, this is something that actually, jewish tradition has suggested that. And latter day saints, i think, would find some truth to this, or at leaste some fascinating possibilities. According to this jewish tradition, it's possible that what what ham was doing was not simply stumbling across his father that was uncovered in the tent, but somehow trying to steal from him this priesthood garment. If that's the case, then no wonder canaan was cursed. In terms of that is not the way to receive priesthood.
