The Importance of Mass

C.S. Lewis once said that the modern habit of doing ceremonial things unceremoniously is no proof of humility. A good priest just disappears, he says; his instrumentality makes him transparent to the work of God in the liturgy. There's a kind of anxiety that we need to make mass especially engaging in this worldly way or else we're going to lose the young people. But at the end of the day, the mass applies the merits of Jesus Christ from Calvary through his glorified humanity into souls of those who receive.
