The Biblical Significance of Fasting
The purpose of fasting is God not people. We fast so that we may again feast on that relationship with God. Once again Jesus is reminding his followers that we should not do things for mean earthly vanities but rather raise our gaze to eternal verities. Do not labor for that which perishes said Jesus. Labor for that which is eternal. Here today it's gone tomorrow. Only one life. Children will be passed only what's done for Christ or last.
