J-crew fell on hard times in the early 2000s. Many retailers did, but it really lost its way. Mickey Drexler who had built the mighty gap in the 1980s and 90s came in as a Hail Mary for the company. He zeros in on Jenna Lyons, this designer who had been at J-crew since she graduated from college.
