The Importance of Borderline Personality Disorder
Historians, feminist scholars and disability activists all argue that it's not a coincidence that borderline personality became an overwhelmingly female diagnosis in the same decades marked by both second wave feminism and the rise of the new right. The diagnosis largely applied to women that pathologized anger, sexuality, and impulsivity clearly seemed like an attempt to punish and control women who pushed back against traditional gender boundaries.
