In the 1800s, people began importing Asian species of chestnut. They inadvertently introduced a fungal pathogen called Christ in actual paracitica. This fungus kind of lives almost a commensal lifestyle with the chestnut species there that are mostly resistant to it. But when it came to the United States and was introduced to the American chestnut,. It quickly burned through the entire range and decimated the species.
