I started listening to bigger jazz bands when I was six or seven years old and my folks had a record player. Just record after record and sit there on the floor and listen to them. Did you have aspirations of being a professional musician or did you just love that? Absolutely. When I was 16 I looked in the mirror one day and I said, will you ever be as good as Coltrane? I did not. You talked to somebody? Nobody would ever be.
