The Rise of Spain and the Rise of England
In his book in 1582 Hocklett argued that England's rights to that region were just as strong as those of Spain and he argued that England should pursue those claims. He also wrote that the colonists should avoid the violent approach of the Spanish conquistadors in South America. It wasn't exactly a modern enlightened view of the world but it wasn't the brutal approach of the conquistador either.
