The Search for Space in Football

Football will always be the search for space. David Winner really brought that idea into the mainstream with brilliant orange. There will never be a time when having your striker with the ball surrounded by players is a good thing. And one of the ways that we do it now that we absolutely went into in 2008 was a goalkeeper taking a goalkeeper five yards. But again, that's the danger of drawing metaphors from one sphere and sort of placing them over something else. I don't think it does have any impact on football.
