The Change in the English Language in the Hundred Years' War
In 1356, London officials ordered that all legal proceedings in the local sheriff's court be conducted in English instead of French. The language of the common people was starting to be accepted in official circles and French was being pushed to the margins. That change in London occurred in the same year that the next major battle of the Hundred Years' War took place.
