The Importance of Women in Hadith Scholarship

Muhammad's favorite wife Aisha was important for the reporting of Hadith. Reports are a fundamental basis for the law and as a guide for day-to-day life of all Muslims. The reports transmitted by Aisha show her high degree of learning, writes Hadeel Qureshi. But there was a steep decline in the participation of women in Hadith scholarship following the earliest generations.
