I Was There American Dream, I Have to Believe That Sentence

I was there American Dream is about me coming to terms with my Filipino Egyptian American identity. And I knew at the end of the book, I would have to be comfortable and say, when I say that the sentence I am American, I have to believe that sentence. It's like a way of really, you know, I think about story being like, it's a way of getting people to feel something they know. But it's also a way of you doing that for yourself of like, I know this is true, but when you when you go through the work and you feel it, all of a sudden, it's like a value. That makes so much sense to me.
